DIY Letter Pillows

I am super excited to share this post with you today as I think I may be onto something! I’m in the process of making my craft room looking a bit craftier so I decided that I wanted some kind of banner to hang up on the wall. I had a riffle through Pinterest and decided that I wanted the word ‘CRAFT’ (shock) in big plush letters, but for the life of me I couldn’t find a tutorial on how to make them. Undeterred, I decided to give it a go myself and I am happy to report that it worked!

DIY Letter Cushions/pillows

Could this be any cuter? I used THIS pack of fat quarters, THESE templates, my handy sewing machine and some stuffing from a pillow to create the gloriousness above! Come on in and I’ll take you through how I made them from start to finish πŸ™‚

First I printed and cut out all of my letter templates. Make sure to choose a thick and bold font if you make them yourself.

Then I placed each letter on the respective fabric and traced around it leaving about 1/2 an inch gap all the way round as a seam allowance. You could get all technical and measure it exactly but I just eyeballed it. Do this twice so you have a front and back. Make sure you have two opposite side, like one F is facing the right way and the other is reversed. (made that mistake too many times)

Place your two letters right sides together and then stitch all the way around using about 1/4 inch seam allowance. Leave an edge open as this is where you will pack in the stuffing!

Turn it the right way out and then stuff that bad boy with your pillow entrails.

Now here’s a trick… Before turning the sewn shapes the right-way out, on the seam that you left open sew 1/6th of the way closed on each end. This will give you a good basis when you come to close the seam completely and also gives some nice looking corners πŸ™‚ Pin it and sew as close to the edge as you can master. You can also do it by hand but I’m far too lazy for that!

Give it a big of a roll around and a smoosh to even out the stuffing and the you’re done!

F Finished

Obviously it is far from perfect and I by no means claim to be an expert but I though this little project was spot on! I’m really proud of it and can’t wait to hang it up πŸ™‚ Here are some pictures of the other letters close up for your enjoyment… Don’t say I’m not good to you!

I could squeal like a little piggy every time that I look at them! Not bad for a couple of week nights and a pack of fat quarters πŸ™‚
