A New Sewing Shenannigan and Some Housekeeping!

If you haven’t read about the quilting class that I took last year then I strongly suggest that you do 🙂 We will all wait for you to catch up.

Oh good! You’re back. Now that you know what I’m talking about you might be interested (ha) to know that I have started making a new quilt! I started this project as part of my class and unfortunately didn’t get to finish it before the course ended so I’m carrying on regardless without instruction! This will hopefully be the second quilting project that I manage to completely finish – the first being a quilt which I made for my brother for Christmas. That was actually a resounding success and I have it on good authority that it was his best present! To let you understand, my brother is a 22 year old, burly man’s-man so the idea of him liking a handmade quilt so much simply tickles me pink 🙂 I know it’s a shock but I don’t actually have a picture of the thing! Hopefully I will remember the next time at I’m at home to document my seminal masterpiece… Until then you will just have to use your imagination.

So for my next trick I will be making something of the same ilk, although decidedly much more feminine. As it was started in the quilting class it is based on a real life pattern. Unfortunately, if left to my own devices I get very frustrated with patterns and end up just winging it (see evidence of this here). I chose a mish-mash of blue and cream fabrics, but now on reflection I’m not sure why as it won’t really go with anything in my house… Cest la vie, eh?

A beaut, no? So that’s what I’ve been doing with my days! I have about another 5 blocks to piece together then I can get on with merging everything into one. My only concern is how my little sewing machine that could will cope with this mountain of fabric… It wasn’t exactly plain sailing last time. Maybe I’m ready for a fancier machine? Or at least one which wont make me scream into a pillow.

In other news I got a pretty perfect surprise the other day… MY YOUTUBE VIDEOS ARE MAKING MONEY! At this point it’s literally pence but that doesn’t stop me wanting to shout it from the rooftops! I started that channel last April and published 11 videos of my face basically talking nonsense about label makers and Birchboxes. I don’t really know why I stopped posting videos but that little nugget of joy has made me want to post a new one! Also, I’v been thinking about it since getting my DSLR so watch this space… In the meantime, THIS LINK will take you directly to my Youtube channel where you can have a laugh at my expense if you’re interested.

My final piece of news might be the most exciting… From the 27th of February Boldly Gold will be a SELF HOSTED BLOG! I’m finally taking the plunge, throwing caution to the wind and making myself the sole decision maker of my blog. So what does this mean for you? Well I will have complete control over the layout and design of this site so things will (hopefully) look prettier! Another big change is that I will be monetising this blog so you might see a couple of discreet adverts here and there once all is said and done. I thought long and hard about this decision and have done a tonne of research and I think this is the best way for me to move forward with this project which I am so passionate about.

You can bet your bottom dollar that I will be sharing this journey to self hosted freedom with you all, so while it might be pretty uninteresting to those who aren’t bloggers, I hope that it will be kind of helpful for the people who are. If you have taken the self-hosted track then please do get in touch so I can pick your brain! I have so many questions and Google can only do so much 😀
