About a month ago, my mum decided that it was about time something was done with the guest bedroom in her house. I whole-heartedly agreed as it was less than welcoming to say the least! I invariably end up staying in there at Christmas on a rickety old sofa bed having given up my old room for a rogue aunt and uncle. My mum asked for my help in doing up the place and I couldn’t wait to get started. We sat down one night to plan the guest room revamp and here’s the plan for this awkward little space:
The room is pretty small and started off life as my little brother’s room when we moved in 15 years ago! Once he grew out of it, it turned into a bit of a catch-all room with a bonus sofa bed that haunts dreams. The plan is to burn it with fire and get a chic new daybed with a trundle – perfect for the odd guest or two! There’s a wardrobe and dressing table in there too so these will be getting a bit of a makeover to fit in with the new style of the room. The other main upgrade will be a striped accent wall which I’m pretty excited about. I’ll be following the tutorial on the LiveLoveDIY blog (that girl is like my spirit animal) and I’m not anticipating any real obstacles. (Cue: Everything goes horribly wrong the minute I slap a paint brush on the wall).
We’re going for a neutral palette with some green accents – very natural and soothing, and it ties in well with the rest of the house. This is my first time actually painting and decorating a room so it’s a bit beyond me as to why my mum asked for my help in the first place. God loves a trier and so does my mum apparently so I’m giving this little room my all 🙂
We want to have this room completely finished before Christmas which sounds do-able until I tell you that I really only have 2 weekends to work on it… YIKES! Everything kicks off on Saturday and I’ll catch you up next week on the progress we make. Until then, it’s all hands on deck people!!
